Korobov from 1965. G11 , caseless ammunition, telescopic ammunition, and aerodynamic ammunition.
Btw. anything interesting on that munition development table?
Does this say anything interesting?
As for that pic - it just announces upcoming article about exotic Russian weaponry - about AR of "volley fire" designed by Korobov. The guy made some exotic stuff, i heard about him. It never seen any real mass production though. Yep, that Korobov AR you poster above is great - i have intuitive feel of good weapons and this one feels good enough as i imagine using it. However...that magazine/feed part feels a bit complex but it's hard to tell without seeing/disassembling real thing, but i bet this gun lost to AK because it was at least a bit more complex and harder to produce.
Maybe i should draw a new laser rifle based on design like this one after all..
It was used in vietnam as a sniper rifle and still is used as parade weapon.
Until the end of the war it was use by the Svietnamese army. The US army switched early on to the AR15/M16. The Svietnamese army got some M16 as test and only in the last weeks of the war.
It was taken out of service after the war, but now got into service again as a sniper weapon.
The problem was that it's a heavy battle rifle with just 7+ rounds and no automatic.
IMHO true battle rifles are best on the battlefield.
They say Colt contract will expire soon - i hope someone else will become US official AR manufacturer.
You know the israelis sell their corner shot complete with a kitty.
A few photos:
here's the guy with M14
Btw, a good example of good old weapons that still alive and kicking - this MG-3 is still very nice MG and when mounted well can be very accurate if you put Aimpoint collimator sights with booster on it
Rare example of G8 - very universal....rifle? AR? Machine gun? Or all all of it together...

I heard the dispension does not always work well, and the shells get stuck.
You could say it has the most inovation in bullpup rifles and does solve the 'exhaust gas near your face problem' as well as left/right hand problem with shell dispension.
IMHO the Tavor is the best practical bullpup, although, a bit longer barrel would give better accuracy at longer ranges.
The only thing I don't like is that you take out the pin/breach system out the back, but I admit it's the fastest way of any rifle I know.
The M4 on the other side can open up the upper cover for quick inspecktion/cleaning.
Yes, the Korobov has a complex mechanism of old that could jamme more compared to simple piston designs of today.
But with caseless ammunition its all solved. *Bwahahaha**mad engineer/scientist*
So my ideal normal ammunition rifle would use caseless ammo with magazine feed similar to G11/P90 or bullpup with the longest possible barrel for combat or battlefield engagement.
The funny thing I see is that scifi movies and games have weapons with those 'air' tanks from air/water gun kits.
I'm also amused that there are many airsoft weapons gamers today who talk about real weapons but basictly don't realize there is a big difference.AlexT wrote:

Correct, but I think we all know they won't change to any newer weapon anytime. The reason is that there are millions of M16/M4 rifles
out there to be replaced. Very costly so they will prefer some kind of modding to update the internal mechanics.
The same reason why they won't change to other calibers like 6.5/6.8 mm. After all there are hundreds of millions or many billions total of cartriges left.AlexT wrote:

Also - by the time the guy use it he'll be shot through wall.
Yes, IMHO it's only a thing for anti-terrorist units, police, and tunnel rats.
On the battlefield, they (israelis) would simply shoot one of the special multipurpose munition to
take out the wall or door or house.
I don't think a normal 5.56 mm can penetrate all types of walls unlike a true battle rifle. If you ever used one you know the difference.AlexT wrote:

The german army has been using battle rifles until 2000? so they are well of on the battle field compared to most NATO countries.
Of course, after all, the MG3 is the offspring of the german machine gun in WW2, there is no better battle proven machinegun. But that thing is heavy, not that a M60 is any better, though.
I'm not into weapons that much to know all for sure but from what I read it's a light machine gun which can only use magazines not belts.
In other words it's a modified G3 for heavy duty. So instead of blowing out someone's guts out with one shot it takes out everything behind that person.
Or it can make a hole in a wall if the shooter can make a circle movement fast enough. LOL
My experience with the battle rifles is that they are great for shooting even if badly alligned. A good alligned one is just great: 100% hitrate at anything I can aim.
Just put a scope on on you got a decent sniper rifle.
As parade weapon I love to use the FAMAS. The M14 needs too much practice and it's too heavy for hour long parades.
I prefer bullpup because of weight and compactness. Try to run around, crawle etc with at least 10-40 kg backpack, 20-25 kg normal gear, a 5 kg rifle, plus ammo.

- We had only nursery (3-6) and then just 1 school that last for 10 years: Usualy there was 4 groups in school - A,B,C,D, after you get your 9 years as a must - those weaker students were dropped and 2-3 groups was formed from those 4. By the end of it you'd receive "average education" or "complete average education" accordingly. On that 10th year ppl also received some more advanced study that prepared them for one of the options: specialized college (technical), millitary school or University that usualy combined both. If you couldn't make it anywhere after school - you go to army. If you're dismissed during university due to poor performance - you go to army. If you made it to technical school - you finish it and then go to army, in university - there was millitary section and every student that qualified received millitary officer rank of "Senior Leutenant" and was taught accordingly and thus didn't have to go to army. Funny - i didn't want to go to army, must be my peaceful nature So i just had to be in university.
University was tricky too - you had to study 4 years and you'd receive rank of "Specialist", but additionaly you could apply for 5th year and if you're accepted - you'd receve master's degree.
You could pay for education or goverment could pay for you if you're good but it was limited to certain number of people per class.
In my case - i finished 10 years of school, and all 5 years of university so technicaly i only seen 2 "schools" I'd never agree to repeat it Some people remember school days as the best ones but it's not my case. I remember i constantly feared i wouldn't make it
to 10th class, university, 5th year etc. Back then it was like a race and more important than today.

Ok, so in western terms you had higher education and then went on to university.
If there is some note section you should mention that it was done in the old soviet system, just in case so they can't say you lied or so. You should also ask some one who knows the specifics about exchange students or so to be sure.
But then again Abh don't really need to use because of their genetic beauty.

As far as the British system goes, the terminology can be confusing since they call what we in the U.S. would think of as Private Schools Public Schools.

Yep, but i remember reading somewhere that gun you linked wasn't very good. Actualy Vepr should be lighter - just cuz it looks bigger doesn't mean it's heavy - after all it's shorter, many of it's parts are hollow inside etc. I consider it to be very good weapon and it is mass production ready on top of it.... Tests show great performance of this rifle and it's about as reliable as AK. Makes me proud it's made in our poor "little" country While Ukraine do not mass produce weapons much - it's sure on of the biggest development centers for modern weaponry. We have best modifications of T80, newer Ukrainian tanks, one of the best missiles etc. Unfortunately like all the other great stuff like AN-225 and many other planes they remain just experimental models thanks to our goverment.Almael wrote:Hmm, it has the right caliber

I'm maiking portrait of Abh at the moment - it's gonna be my first "real" attempt to get into portrait stuff. It goes pretty well, but my GF says Abhs should use variations of blue for everything and i think it would be too much since abhs are not that concerned with how they look, still - bright blue lips and blue shadows would look cool on blue haired girls.Of course, I don't remember if there was ever an era in human history where cosmetics or jewelry don't exist. Btw, the color of "non-command" uniform - how much blue in it? Or is it has only a hint of blue and more like light black\gray?
I think it's just standard thing for them - they all like what's beautiful and elegant so they all try to look beautiful and elegant which means: they do constantly use cosmetics to be beautiful but they don't use too much of it to stay elegantAbh women don't seem to be overly vain when it comes

We have best modifications of T80
I hope this relyability was not based on the generous spaciousness of the mechanism which is the reason for it's bad accuracy.
Shouldn't the T90 be the most modern tank in service? What about this black eagle I hear?

After all they are decendents of japanese culture, they may value elegance and greatness of any sorts but decency or moderation is also high a valued characteristics. This is mirrored in their practicality in making decisions. But they aren't stingy when spending for something they like.
It seems Abh aren't fixed on any colors, although there seems to be some kind of specific design features reserved or representing certain functions.
Btw the people on Sugfugnof on the other side seem to have extreme color fashion at the time Jinto&LAfiel got stuck there.
Jinto was astounded so it was something he didn't expect to be on Abh ruled planet.
It seems official's clothing are dominantly white with lines being of any color. Jinto for example had red or green in military uniform pattern.
Other civil clothing can be of any sort and design, but nobles man seem to wear something with those wide shoulder triangles. But as we have seen Lafiel's father just wears a normal coat.

My old CPU was Core 2 Duo E8400 which had TDP 65W, it was badly overclocked 3.0>4.0 and it's TDP then increased to around 110W... Now, CORE i7 - it's base TDP is 130W! I think I did once or twice, but since most artist's arts have unnecessary junk on, unworkable in engineering or scientific sense, are fantasy or only ever produced by aliens , I don't particulary follow this stuff. Of course I still enjoy the nice elegant designs. For inspiration I look at angles many just don't have. Also many are bound by similar certain aspects and not really out of the box thinking, but you only know if you know a lot, done a lot of thinking like me. Simple example: Many tend to employ some mechanics, but from engineering point of view that would introduce lots of complexity, hence, lots of failure.
Here are some links I remember.

I played this game once years ago to see how it fares compared to others. It turned out to have an exponential development curve. So I got bored quickly and practically gave up after several days, but I kept it going to see how the vital techtree went on. So when I came back after some forgotten time. I discovered in my logs that some higher level guy had attacked my single planet empire several times but lost them all. I had no fleet at the time since I was only interested in the techtree, but I got decent defenses . So of course I build quickly built my defenses out. He attacked my poor empire several more times until he gave up.
My general tech was at least two levels lower, all other fleet/weapons tech were far lower, too. I had only built two super defense weapons and a mix of basic defenses numbering in around two hundreds. All that was enough to beat his battleships, cruisers and destroyer fleets.
Edit: Example of great designs
integrated and functional car design
ideal car: basictly a seat
...ideal tank/rifle :barrel+magazine+a wheel
ideal aircraft: a wing
As you see engineers have always been going for the ideal in one or other form. Sometimes math gives ingenous solution to several problems at a time resulting in certain distinct design feature.

I always wondered why a genious guy like Deadalus would use wax instead of tar, which has been commonly used in most civilizations that developed beyond village stage.
Then again we know the greeks are unrelyable and their works more often then not copies of others in one or other form. So the story was probably made up philosophycali based on some indian story, in which it was about people with natural wings. It's obvious this imaginative people are closer to ancient people's world views.
Well, Israel has barely any other customers. All the students get their first job in some military project.
Hmm, what you mean by "junk on"? If you mean it's not "clean"...well, it's concept art -not illustration or matte painting. People paint it with 2 things in mind - the looks and atmosphere. All the "junk" is there to help to create it or add illusion of details which help immagination. Immersion - it's what it's all about.
It can be made into clean pic but would require a lot more of work hours and simply not worth it - you already get the idea at certain stage of pic.
As for mechanical aspect...what do you expect then? If they won't experiment, looking for new shapes, ideas, designs then all the stuff would look the same. The goal is to experiment with forms and designs which later can be used to create something much more realistic and thought out maybe.
But in the end - it's all about looking cool, creating unique atmosphere (object/enviroument) and boosting imagination - to see how specific design would fit or represent certain enviroument...
I checked links you posted. Some artist there have nice ideas but art level is pretty bad. The rest is what i know very well.
Speaking of art - while Abh portrait i'm working at is pretty hard for me for i have to learn tons of little aspects (how to detail-paint eyes, hair, clothes) i decided to try something easier in between - a Seikai ship i haven't drawn yet But again - anime add a lot of confusion by providing conflicting references..Anyway - it's 50% done so i'll post it soon.

This group isn't as active as I thought it was going to be.
Shame really, does anyone know of any Seikai groups?
Maybe we could somehow combine other sites with this one...

Well, there are some, but many are just spread all over the globe and in different languages.

But it's very dedicated at least. But i guess it's also result of Seikai nature: we either know some things for sure and there's not much we can discuss/speculate or things we have no idea about cuz there's no mention or hint. I think it's usualy a sign of good storytelling they say, but it sure doesn't help to make crowded forums. Anyway - why don't you post something to change things? May be a good start...tanis1lionheart wrote:This group isn't as active as I thought it was going to be.

_______________
Somehow end of the summer always get complicated. My father had health accident a few days back while he was away. Thankfully It appeared to be not as serious as we feared or maybe we just made it in time - we had to travel 60 km to get him and then send to hospital. He had temporary blood pressure problem...
As if it wasn't enough i myself have a nasty fever for 5 days now and it just won't go away. I rarely get sick and even if so - 2 days is usualy enough to get better so i guess i should get myself checked this time. Problem is - now i have to deal with a lot more things in company, there's no time. 37.3C (100F) is not that much of a temperature to affect my efficiency, but it sure drive me mad by making things "bleak".
I always believed in as they say - "we are what we eat". Lately i didn't pay much attention to what i was eating and it sure made me weaker. Too much shaurma* ("doner kebab" or whatever it's called correctly in english). Although i mostly had sirian version (less fat and bread is different) it's still not very healthy food. Time to punish myself with rice and tea. Btw, why don't we make topic about food somewhere?

I meant for example all the pipes and such extra stuff. Or Why would a simple rocketlauncher need all the extra heavy bulky layers of junk when all it needs is a tube, a trigger, a sight, and battery?AlexT wrote:

I meant the ones that serve no needed functions or are extra junk.AlexT wrote:

Clean and functionaal not only saves wokr but also shows understanding.
nothing cool about junk. Leave those for sketches to show thoughts but the finals should be something.

Well, they don't care to make too real. it's a **** to turn them into decent 3D designs.

Oh, i see, sorry - the artistic aspect is always first to come into my mind Otherwise i agree. That junk serve artistic purposes and main of them is distraction. Average human eye (brain actualy) capacity to detect errors is limited when it has to deal with a lot of details thats why simple and familiar stuff is always hardest to draw.
Btw, looks like i need your help once again

- Spoiler:
- Here is a small piece of sketch of picture i'm working on atm - small enough so that it won't spoil the fun of final version but enough so that you recognize the ship type and see part i have problem with
The question is simple - is hull all round there or those mine launching tubes are like a "box" on top of round main body of the ship just like i sketched so far? In anime they draw it how they like depending on camera angle. The most detailed scene says it is round until it meets flat surface of mine bays, but most other moments show more complex and "boxed" construction. I spent more time than i wanted on this ship so i want it to be accurate so that i can use it as reference in future pics.
And btw - is base color alright? it will be shiny with reflected sun and stuff or Abh ships are more "matte"?

A food topic would be fun...as long as you hide Menchi!!!
Y'know that dog is sensitive when food is the topic.(Ok you need to see Excel Saga to know what I'm talking about.)

I never use such methods, I rather use that time for better design thoughts or other nice drawings. If ever I use optical fixes for bad 3D aspects.AlexT wrote:Oh, i see, sorry - the artistic aspect is always first to come into my mind Otherwise i agree.

Your model's various aspects and scales are off. The launch bays use nearly the whole width. The idea of this particular design is to maximize use of space.
It's complicated, but as a rule of thumb it's always curved in some way.
Here is a quick sketch from the front through a cut section. The red lines are my mod design thoughts I used to create the models. The mini pics are partial renderings from those models. (normal version & command version)
Sorry, but I don't have access(different comp) to more detailed pics nor have I the right 3D software installed right now to make newer pics.
As you can see at the front mouth of the opening armor cover there is a teeth like edge.
The armor cover is curved in all directions! The teeth design just allows certain underneath weapons to look through the lower part.
The base color is mate or grey. They just look light because of all the lighting used.
Nothing was unintended, but may be poorly executed/realized.
Ugh, not menchi!mitsuki lover wrote:

I only watch comedy channel for the (infamous ) daily show or the cobert report.
When's he going to space again?

But still i already see that it should be even wider and not "boxed" but round instead and as result - there should be no shadow there.
I finaly found couple of good pics:

https://i.servimg.com/u/f87/13/77/27/05/ref210.jpg
Can i trust these? On first one the upper (and bottom) is about 1/2 of hull's width (not taking engines into account) and second one represent how curved it is. Btw, second one's part where forward hull meets middle part is incorrect, at least if i trust most of other screenshots i have - there's a little gap...
Food topic is nice idea - everyone can desctibe things they had chance to eat and how they eat it (except obvious everyday stuff) so that others can at least be warned before trying something exotic
Also tanis1lionheart posts made me think about some sort of "favorite poetry/lyrics" topic, but more complex than just place where people post tons stuff. Something like old "way you feel about life" topic at A.N. but you have to post song or poetry that could describe your current mood atm maybe. It's not like we're in any danger of spam here anyway ;P
