I was contacted via my 23andme account from the son of my cousin who died in a horrible car crash back in '87. He was very young when she died and so is asking for pics of his mother.

It sounds like Medieval Otaku has decided to take the Raw Anime plunge. When I read one of his latest posts on the weekend, he said he was going to start watching anime without the subtitles to help with his Japanese learning. Recommended to anyone who wanted to study Japanese.
Been there, done that and still doing that on Mondays.

The real temptation in watching the raws is to try to translate in your mind, which can be a real headache and distraction.
OTOH: It' s fun when you can recognize words and phrases without a translation.

My oldest sister just showed me some pics that my youngest nephew sent her of Japan, he's there teaching English ( I think) for some mission group. He's living in, I think Yazui or Shizouka (sp?) near the Pacific coast. I don't know but Shizouka sounds familiar some how. Could be my imagination.
Any way the pics were mostly of scenery. No people or animals. Weird that. Pretty rural area and all, but
not a single person or animal.
Though he did send a nice pic of a old steam engine at a train depot.
Still...where're all the people?

Once I saw that Discotek was reviving Dual I didn't look any further on their catalog of new releases.

That also got me to thinking of how not just old or classic anime but also old and classic tv, manga, comics, movies, etc. are all popular these days. It doesn't surprise me that they would be popular with those of us who grew up watching or reading them; rather what is surprising is how popular they are with the younger generations. Nostalgia is one thing, but I think there is something, especially about today's tv shows that has left a void.
Maybe people are tired of being preached to and just want to watch something that is plain entertaining without leaving a message, just something fun.
OTOH, a genre like the Western might be popular because it shows boys that a man can be tough and gentle at the same time without loosing his masculinity.
I could be wrong, but with culture today trying to feminize boys...perhaps a time when boys could be boys and girls could still be feminine without worrying about feminism could be why these shows are popular.
Just some thoughts.

I see where there's now talk of bringing the Seattle Supersonics back as part of an overall umbrella
organizations that would include the NHL Kraken.
The Kraken ownership is who is interested in doing it. The only problem I can see is scheduling so there won't be a conflict between the NHL and NBA in regard to dates.

Right now it's a wait and see how the NBA reacts...though the rivalry between Seattle and OKC should be one that would be a forgone conclusion.

Twitchy had a video from X of a Venezuelan woman who had legally immigrated to Canada laying down the facts about Marxism and Communism to some snot nosed college kids. She kept trying to tell them the truth of what it is like living in a Marxist/Socialist/Communist State but they kept trying to mock her with trite sayings and slogans. At one point she told them if they loved Communism so much why the didn't go live in some Communist country like Cuba...

One boy even can be heard saying: "When the Revolution Comes!"....yeah while if that ever happened he and his friends would be in for a rude awakening, as they would probably wind up at the low end of things...probably cleaning the streets or some other such jobs that they make fun of other people doing now.

It's one truth about Communism...the useful idiots are the ones who get the most surprised because it's not the Workers' Paradise (tm) that they've been told it will be.
