Meh... forget zombies I want to wage war with 4 story tall mechas and future weapons...
Why fight in the trenches when you can just step on soldiers.

Tried Starship Trooper yet? Lots of bugs to kill, and huge one's, too. Too bad you don't get nuclear bazooka too often. King and plasma bugs are a bit of a pain, though.

Re: What do you play?
While i liked and played like every mechwarrior game out there - i always liked to get close and personal with all kinds of monsters.
"Judge asks the defendant: "When did u realize it's not a zombie in a bush but another Survivor?
- When zombie started to shoot back!"
It's gaming vacuum out there right now. But they said few realy good titles are coming soom, among which one of my favorite series - Armed Assault 2 (ex Operation Flashpoint) - the best millitary tactical simulator in the world atm.

So, have any of you played DoW 2 or Men of War? I'm admittedly a huge RTS buff, and I'd like to know your recommendations for the genre

Re: What do you play?
Been playing a LOT of random PSP/PS2 games.
SMT: DD2 just game out...upgrade on every level of the original, and that's saying something.
I also, finally, got around to playing with my Wii...kind of poking around for games.
Got 'Klonoa' - brilliant remake; not the hardest game ever, but just good old fun.
Same goes for the new DK game..ok, so it's really just a 'wii-make'...still, I think it's better this time around.
Plays more like DKC, which is nice.
Punch-Out!!! is pretty good; haven't tried the multi yet.
The FPS Gundam (J-Only) I finally got around to REALLY getting into. Pretty good game; wish it would come state side.
Now I can't wait for NMH2; finally beat the first yesterday.

Re: What do you play?
Well I beat COD5... found it rather boring. The Nazi zombies I seem to only be able to get up to level 5. Darn zombies are too quiet and some how manage to get a lone one behind me.
I think I could have gotten to 6 or 7, figuring I pulled up the mountable machine gun and that was great for ripping their heads off. But again... the one lone zombie...

Re: What do you play?
Zombies! We are doomed!!
Well, my first tries with it I didn't know I could purchase things.
Anyway, my strategy is to hold out until level 3 before going up the stairs. I used the knife only and repair the window cover. At this point the zombies can only be killed by two knife strikes.
Use all your pistol munition and purchase a rifle, then a second one. Any other powerful weapon needs too long for reloading.
Once the second floor is accessible the zombies will also come from the 'balcony'.
I find the corner on the left of the stair the best defensible position.
I made it to level 8 and was killed while I looked to purchase munition.
It wouldn't be trouble if the zombies wouldn't get toughter.

Re: What do you play?
Supposedly the best strategy is to use the random box, and get the flamethrower.
But of course it's random...
I found the upper floor was harder, because you can get rushed easier with no where to run.
I mean they all run in the door as a horde and you can't kill em fast enough.
Now... give me a warthog and a gunner. I can guarantee I'll mow them down.

actually, what i'd recommend (if you can) is play zombies with some friends. more guns make those hordes easy pickings. I got to lvl 21 with my buddies...but i've never played it solo, so i wouldnt know.

Re: What do you play?
I haven't played too much in a while.
Been kind of busy with playing on moving n' anime/reading.
But, I tried out 'Crimson Gem Saga' for the PSP - not too bad; kind of fun. Love Atlus.
&
Knights of Nightmare for the DS - again, pretty decent little game. Again, LOVE Atlus.

Re: What do you play?
Played Terminator Salvation... i expected to be some poor game but it was quite ok. The immersiona was quite good, combat is stolen from Gears of wars, but is ok too. Anyway - it was nice play&forget game, i've seen a lot worse.
Armed Assaul 2 is finaly out, waiting for it to arrive...but something tells me i should wait for Operation Flashpoint 2- sequel of best millitary simulator ever...Arma became too arcade - no huge operations where you felt as only 1 of many soldiers on battlefield, or MIA behind enemy lines etc.

Fire them up!
Powerful Rifles(like AK47) are better than P90, because you can get two hits with one shot if they are aligned. The machine guns are best for this but reloading is just too risky and you waste points when filling up too early.
I agree the lack of defensible positions is troublesome. And it's not appealing to play it over and over.

Re: What do you play?
I decided to play the fan-tran of Front Mission 2 (the side scroller) kind of fun; it's no FM1/3/4, but it's a nice little game.
Heard the new one is being made by...Americans...
Hope the series doesn't follow the fate of the 'Silent Hill' series.

Re: What do you play?
Ah, that underground game.
This reminds me about AlexT comment on the Calico guns being bad
the game I had used it once was Parasite Eve 2.*searches*
I still have the first save. It's such a horror game you have to keep your achievement.
Here's the weapon usage statistic of my first game.
weapon color code:
blue=handgun 9 mm Parabellum
yellow=shotgun 12 gauge
red=rifle 5.56 mm
M93R Aya's favorite and game's basic weapon; 20 rounds; 1 or 3 shot burst
SP12; 7 rounds; single shot; the all-round solution
AS12; 20 rounds; 'continuous shot' =no typical shotgun round chambering; not really that faster but great magazine capacity.
P229 has flashlight; 12 rounds; single shot; does critical hits every 4 times or so
P08 "Typically the second weakest weapon in the game, nobody in his right mind will buy it"; 7 rounds; single shot; upgraded with special item to 32 rounds
M4A1 Hammer; M4 with electro-shocker; poor range; works against masses; best medicine against the tough guys
Calico M950 ; 100 rounds; weakest shots in the game; bad range; but the first full-automatic in the game; fired around 500+ shots in one Boss fight and he was still alive
M4A1 Grenade; M203 grenade launcher; longest reloading; used twice & fired about 100 grenades in two Boss fights
M4A1(+1); one extra magazine; used once & fired about 320 shots in one Boss fight (370 parabellum shots wouldn't do)
Tonfa Baton; the battle stick; used to bully the bats, rats, butterflies, carterpillars, scorpions
M4A1 Pyke: Flamethrower; utterly disappointing; doesn't work well against the masses.
conclusion
M93R can be your main weapon for half the game
SP12, P229 can be found; these two will be your main weapons for nearly 1/3 of the game
Calico M950 has to be earned
buy only M4A1 for the Hammer attachement and if your PE powers are low otherwise buy the grenade pistol
P08 is great with upgrade but slow firing rate is no good against big guys or masses
Here is the Parasite Energy Powers I have throughout the game. Both 'magic' are level 1.
You can have up to level 3 for all magic powers.
My final score; since you can only view it after finishing it once & starting a new game the other stats are not there anymore.
According to the score I sucked and ended with Rank G. The next Rank was at 62000 EXP. I admit, for the first half of the game I just went trough without much care and I didn't fought all fights. I'm pretty sure I missed out a dozen battles.
All in all because EXP and BP result in better equipment available to buy and starting EXP and BP the next time you replay, it was essential to conserve everything.
One bad thing about the Parasite Eve series is that by the time you get the good equipment they are no longer vital/needed. If the Calico was available earlier I'm pretty sure I would have used it most of the time.
Also you have to play more then ten times to get to use all the weapons in the game. -_-
The battle control is very timing heavy, because you have to activate targeting. Only then can you fire, but it doesn't mean you hit if you push any movement button. Also animation has priority over reaction commands, so you have to avoid before the enemy starts firing.
As to boss battle there are always an easy way and the normal but nightmarish way to win.
Parasite Eve 1 had even more weapons and variations and slot restrictions. No way you gonna get to use all the weapons.
It's very similar to Final Fantasy VII but just better in game character 3D models.

Re: What do you play?
I need some HDD space, so I'm going to remove some games: Crysis, Starship Troopers (2004?).
If you are interested in screenshots or infos then ask now. I probably will never play these again.
While randomly surfing I stumbled over the space game I mentioned, but forgot the name back then. It's called Nexus: The Jupitor Incident, a game from one of my favorite creators of the Imperial Galactica series.
Here is the cancelled sequel tech demo. Too bad the company was shutdown by EA.
Edit: Btw. Battleswarm: Field-of-honor was not the reason as I just found out myself.

JGZinv wrote:A.C.E.
Amored Core? or some other console game?
If it's an old console game then there are many reasons.
The greatest problem is the compressed space use by the text. English text will take about double as many characters as japanese, even after compression it still will be bigger.
So the text has to be abbriviated a lot. Then the sum checks has to be addjusted.
If it uses more space then all the jump points of the whole game data have to be adjusted....
As to Crysis you can actually kill the enemies with one headshot, but you have to hit the face. If they wear helmets or hats then those are hit first and fly off then you can kill with one shot. It's possible to shoot drivers but often it seemed not to work when they come at you.
It seems the bullets can only get through at the lower part of the windshield.
Enemies drown immediatly if pushed into water.
Alright, some fun and rare pics from Crysis which needed some trying to do.
Mission: Relics. N. Korean helicopter caught. pilot&gunner are immortal; 6 ever sleeping beauties in the back.
Mission: Awankening or so. N. Korean General about to drown but never does.
Mission: Contact/Recovery. Surprise shark attack.
Final Mission. Rescued Admiral but he never thanks you.
Relics. Copter surfing....
Relics. Sleeping beauties who never fall off their sleeping place.
Enemies don't care to shoot or kill their comrades.
Gosh. That was a close.

Re: What do you play?
Hmm, the saves nowaday and screenshots take quite some space...
Anyway, I moved the essentiel ones to the net for keepsake.
And now to my two cents on Starship Troopers from Strangelite (2004) my rant on the bad reviews given. I will just list the points of conflicts from one of the gamesites.
A.-Grenades fail in training session;Grenades often fail; explosion minimal;Grenade timer is useless.
A1: in the training session there are slits in front of the target. If a grenades falls into it's gone.
A2: The grenades are smart and explode only at a safe distance. If the reviewers ever listen to the explaination they should have known.
Your basic gun grenade explode only when bugs are near, too. So you can set traps.
A3: The bugs are big (5m) so at most a grenade can kill only 2-4 bugs.
A4: The Grenade timer helps to use it in tight spaces as well as have it explode in mid-air. This is usefull against hidden enemies.
B.-Missile Launcher is weak and useless
B1:The missiles are as strong as grenades. Sure they are kind of slow but that's not a problem. And in lock-on modus that's where they shine. One shot incinerate the nearby bugs. This way even the strongest and annoying Tiger bugs are easy to kill.
C.-There is no portable nuclear launcher.
C1: If the reviewers ever played to the last two missions they would have the chance to use it. It's available in 4 mission, one of which you get it by default. But IMHO it's only usefull in the last two missions. I never used it until the last in the first play, because I didn't noticed I got it.
D.-The NPCs are worthless, because they can't hit, don't runaway, and die fast.
D1: Actually, they shoot very well. They usually score direct hits faster than I do, but they shoot at a very slow rate. They aim and time grenades precisely, I can't compete in this.
D2: Yes, they don't run away. They advance as far as you do. They never retreat. But they move to attack and return to their guard position. If you want to go ahead alone then don't look at them or they will follow.
D3: True, but it's worth keeping them alive because they use grenades often and well.
Now to my short review and some advise:
The game and game play are not interesting or will peak your interest, but the movie related designs are worth looking at.
It's purely a game of extermination and survival. There are no puzzles.
It's made in the image of the movie not the original story novels.
In each mission you get the chance to get to know 400-600 bugs up close. It's recommended that you be a good shooter and tactical fighter.
There is no difference between the difficulty modes except your weapon's damage are slightly changed.
Often, you will be put into tight situations by design, so take a good look at your surrounding.
A health pack gets used when you don't have 100% health, so do not touch one when you don't need it yet. In some mission, it's recommended to remember the health packs position and use it only when really needed.
Now to some pics.
This is the big tanker bug.
small plasma bug, which was forgotten to be included in the extra info section of the game.
big plasma bug
Rhino bug. Impossible to kill anywhere except its ass. And it seems only you can kill it. It's useless to let your NPC shoot at its rear.
Normal Roual bug and its sound blast attack. Only weakness are its eyes. It does several physical attack: slice with the arms, pinch with the front legs, hit with its head.
It's immune to nuke grenades
The shooting tiger, the strongest and most aggressive. Best to use the missile launcher.
If it's very angry and you are close but it can't touch you it can shoot up to 5 or 6 darts.
The annoying X-bug. Only weakness are its eyes and a small extention below and between it's leg. It only dies if you destroy that extention after you removed the eye covers.
It has sonic&psychic attack, and after removing its eye cover it does plasma flame attacks.
Now to some highlights.
Nuke strike from a base weapon. Only used once in the game. And it's the most survival mission.
The base about to be overrun of the same mission.
Overrun base: This is from a special position I had to risk my life to get there. It's the safest position at this stage, but it doesn't mean I won't get hurt, just less.
My final escape. Ugh.
Bug Hives. Small tanker bug. Last second escape, and not my fault!
Typical assault which turns hot in seconds.
Enemies in sight.
Anyway, I moved the essentiel ones to the net for keepsake.

Final Fantasy: Dissida.
It's a little better than I thought it was going to be, but no GG.
