System i own and play:
PC exclusively. I was about to buy Xbox360 but except for 1-2 games- everything else is availible and better on PC.
I play everything that i find to be interesting (too many to list) but it's about 70-80% of all "loud" titles + some less known.
As separate type of games - i played MMOs - about 3+ years EVE online (largest space tactical/economical/action game on the net) and few months of Age of Conan (it's fantasy action game like WOW but much more mature and with advanced real-time combat system).
In each game i value "story" the most and i view games as "interactive storytelling" sort of thing. Be it action/shooter or RPG - it doesn't matter. (Mass Effect anyone?)

Recent titles i played - Dawn of War 2, FarCry 2, Fear 2, Dead Space, X3 Reunion, Fallout 3, Witcher, Devil May Cry 4...can't remember all of them
Recently i work a lot (that means i'm not home) and i just can't get used to playing on notebook, even one for gamers - i need my cinema-like experience

PC, exclusive, too. Mosy of 'my consoles' go to the kids of my relatives.
I don't play often. Mostly strategy like C&C, or action shooters like Half Life, or RPGs like Final Fantasy. And sometime some mixed ones.

EVE online was boring...haha i got the 2 week trial thingy cuz me and my friends were trying to find a new MMO to replace WoW (didnt work). imagine WoW, minus the character customization, and then make all travel times 20x as long, and make the map completely indecipherable

I didnt like it, at least...I invite people to disprove me, because the concept is alright

Never played WoW and don't plan to get stuck in it.
There's an interesting game article I should link to sometime that
discusses the hold WoW has over the industry, and that everyone always
returns to it because all their other friends are in it...

I'm more of a sci-fi, space combat nut to be honest.
We need a Xwing MMO.

Star Wars: Old Republic comes out soon. Then we can all get our sci-fi MMO fix thanks to the fine folks over at Bioware. Then we wont even have to have this discussion :-)

Freespace2 = space combat game made by Violition (red faction) and Interplay.
Was made open source in part by Violition which was picked up by fans.

SCP = the fan efforts to improve the engine.

Mods = you know what those are.

NJO = New Jedi Order - later series of star wars books in the expanded universe. Completely trashed the SW universe IMO.. and it went even worse after that. Read up to the Hand of Thrawn duology, and the SW Union comic, then stop if you want to hold anything in the SW expanded universe dear. To a degree I might even go so far as to say the spirit of the previous books was raped in the NJO.

haha, is Freespace2 a FPS spaceflight sim? because, if you havent already, i would heartily recommend Homeworld and Homeworld 2...I love both of those games, and the space combat is fun, if not first person commanding

haha i played a demo for this game waaaay back in the day, when i was but a youngin. i getcha now. Although, I'm still a huge fan of the capital ship vs. capital ship slugfest, so when i get a computer, the first two games going on it are still HW and HW2. call me stubborn

Heh... Tachyon though had a flight model that beat FS2 hands down.
FringeSpace is me and another guy who's been around Tach so long, he beta
tested in 1999 - efforts to create a fan sequel... vastly updated.

There's also Homeworl: Cataclysm - a great game that was between HW1 and HW2, it'd highly recommend it.
Also there's ORB (Offworld Resource Base) which is very close, Nexus...

Both Freespace's was nice...

i didn't like cataclysm honestly...imo it was too easy. i had to put in a LOT of effort to beat homeworld 1 and 2, but cataclysm was pretty easy...plus the flood/space zombies/whatever they were were kinda...cliche, even if it was executed in an interesting way. oh, also, the capital ships in cataclysm (especially the frigates) were nerfed all to hell...a trend which sadly continued in HW2

I have not played the HW series but I am wondering does anyone play supreme commander or SupCom: forged alliance?

I'm thinking about getting it.... not sure, I've got the demo laying around here.
SW Empire At War kinda... was boring. I mean it boiled down to me having more ships
or just moving them around at the right time and concentrating fire. I played the entire Empire
campaign in 2 days... had a fleet of about 50 of everything and another land fleet with 50 of everything.

There is this mod that I was using fleets of smiler sizes and was being wiped out. one blast from some of the enemy ships would wipe out SSD's SD's and other ships and sometimes 2 or 3 ships at a time. Dang rebels and their over whelming fire power (never thought I would be saying that) I don't know how many ships I lost over that campaign because of those super sized war ships. But it made it a lot more fun then the non mod-ed SW-EAW. Not to mention I was bringing in the entire fleet at one just to try and destry ONE of thse annoying ships. I was able to do that due to another mod I put in the game. Also made it a lot more fun.

I had to do what you described with a couple of the last rebel stations.
Then I realized (duh) that if you blow the hanger they can't call more frigates and fighters in.

Also found that an initial wave of 5 Imp ST's pretty much defeats anything short of a massive fighter screen.
Stick 3 cruisers with them and you can handle whatever.
