Re: Seikai Cosplay
Lymh, would you like the email or contact info of a person involved with a seamstress group? She may have additional insight, as she's advised on some Tenchi cosplay previously for a body suit.

Yes, this special tracing paper is good for the final test.lymhfeubdach wrote:I was check out sewing with nancy's sewing supplies, they sell this tracing paper that you can sew for testing.
Yah, this would be interesting, especially the type of seams.JGZinv wrote:She may have additional insight, as she's advised on some Tenchi cosplay previously for a body suit.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
Any idea about those red stripes? The ones that present on each Abh uniform. It's unlikely they're just plain red - must have some pattern, or not? Need it for my painting... Flat red would be much less troublesome but i can already tell it's making uniform look simple.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
They are thick independent lines. But for our convenience in creating I think just thick sewed on lines will do.
The most I'm concern would be creating the capes. As we can see it's a shoulder-type connected design. The problem lies in the weight of it, hence, material thickness.
If it's a thin material it will be easily damage and might be seen through. If it's a thick material it will pull up the front of the suit. Then there is the design problem around the neck....
folded?, cut?, geometric?...

Re: Seikai Cosplay
Do the stripes carry any importance such as rank insignia?Or are they just there for decorative purpose?
As far as the neck goes,it would depend on how much work you want to put into it.It would seem to me that folded would be the easiest and then
geometric the hardest.Unless you're looking at being as authentic as possible than geometric though it sounds the hardest to do.
BTW:Did anyone else catch the interview on CNN with the PR man from
Dragoncon?I saw a bit of it and while they were interviewing him they showed clips of the cosplay parade. You can tell that the cosplayers took a lot of time on their customes.A lot of rather elaborate stuff.

StarForces/ship. Admirals and above have double lining. The pattern
represents military clothing. It seems to be different from the
naval/trader organisation uniform, but these weren't shown too clearly
to say for sure. We only know the coloring is different in SNS3.Imitsuki lover wrote:

think folded is also uncomfortable. I think a mix might do it. Patially
folded so that it looks genuine oldfashioned and partially geometric
cut for practicality.
Yup, my thought was that nowaday there are so
many ?-cons and of course how these people get all the time to do this.
I'm pretty sure you spend at least a hundred of hours to make one of
these custumes yourself. Designing and testing would be the bulk of the
time spend.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
First one looks ok i think but no way to get larger photo without registration.
But as always - to cosplay Lafiel you need a girl of suitable parameters.. I don't think i seen any Seikai (Lafiel in most cases) cosplay done by girls at 50 kg and below at all If i had a costume - i could probably find and photograph a dozen that would look very close, too bad i don't

Sorry, I'm not a member there, so I can't get the pics either.
Hmm, there is a 'famous' cosplay girl maybe I should try to suggest it to her, that is if I can get into contact.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
Ahh...our imperial fleet intertellar message board is malfunctions again - can't get the link of a girl, but page link works Need to inform our...eh..our communications admiral
No, i don't think this is the one...though i might be mistaken... She's european - the girl and her friends i'm talking about are definitely Japanese.
Ok, i came across these:
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs51/i/2009/286/b/4/Grey_eyes_by_SaEDi.jpg
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs50/i/2009/340/e/3/Distant_view_by_SaEDi.jpg
And this other one...
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs46/f/2009/225/3/0/Lafiel_by_Riddle1.jpg
I sugges you just browse Photographs/Cosplay at http://www.deviantart.com/ to see some real nice cosplayers or run search for "Lafiel" there though there's no much art worth of attention

fixed.
But she's also at devian art. Anyway, she's most apt because she studies making clothing etc. but i don't expect any quick reply.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
I love that color! She even did the eye brows! Kawaii!!!!!
I have been looking at making this uniform since I first saw this. I have seen alot of uniform type cos-plays, I think as far as material goes, flat / matted colors are better then the shinnier ones. If you use a more reflective type of material it will come across a little cheezy. (I speak from experince on this) Also looking at real military uniforms, they use flat / matted cloth in thier uniforms.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
It would be nice to see more Abh women dresses.
But then again black empire uniforms are intimidating (a la Star Trek mirror universe)
Although, the basic body suits are sexy, too.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
I been wanting get back on this project for a while, but be so busy. Now that idea for cape looks very good, my thoughts is on inside on jacket our little buttons that hold in place. Also I think it best that make too long, because people will step on and will get very dirty.

Re: Seikai Cosplay
Yes, buttons would be great.
In any case, a cape has two problems:
1. weight (thickness)
2. see-through(thickness;bad for photos;easy to rip)
Ideally it should be a light but tighly woven fabric. Maybe even double layers if it's too light.
