Aww you got to play the Gundam cockpit sim? Now I'm jealous. I figure we could get 4 of those,
translate the language support, and tote em around to conventions and they'd make a return.

Yeah sort of started with Transformers in the late 80's, but it was Toonami's Gundam Wing run that
got me hooked into this thing called anime, and thusly I started searching the Internet for hard to find stuff.
The music was awesome, and there were so many other overtones a "cartoon" never made you think about.
I'd read through 500,000 Google results in a night. I liked 8th MS team as well, simply for the fact you had people that got hurt, died, it was more realistic than super suits.

There's actually an additional episode which closes the 8th MS team series that CN didn't show.
I ended up renting the DVDs through a mail service and found that out.

Toonami Digital Arsenal has all the old TV spots if you want to take a trip down memory lane.
Sadly CN cut the feet out from under Toonami and finally killed it.

The second season of 00 Gundam isn't bad, I got rather tired of the whole idea that Setsuna was viewing
his Gundam as a god, or how much religion distortion they were putting in there. But otherwise there are a couple fight episodes that invoke a "wow, haven't seen that before in Gundam."

Maybe you should look into Bootfighter Windom - XP, it's a free mech combat game with multiplayer.
It's not specific to Gundam, but it can be fun none the less. Wish that we could get a translation of those Another Century's Episode games out of Japan though.

Second Season of Gundam OO begins next month!!!! cheers
Or so I have read somewhere(I think it was the Ani-monday forum or some place like that).
Can't wait to see my favorite Princess.
I think I might be an oddity in that it was Silent Mobius on Tech Tv's Anime Unleashed that got me into anime fandom.

I liked 08th because it was like a real war, in that it was gritty, everyone was pretty much a grunt, and because the pilots were human and whatnot (like that zeke pilot in one episode who was giving the kiddies rides on his zaku and whatnot), but the romance thing was unnecessary...i mean, a hot tub made with your beam sabre? laaaaame.

And yea, the gundam game was friggin sweet. I still have my pilot cards

Well you can put it on the list of titles that Kelly Sheridan and Kirby Morrow have done together along with:
    Inuyasha
    Escaflowne
    Melty Lancer
This also seems to be the second Gundam that Scott McNeill and Kirby Morrow have done.Remeber they both were in the dub of
    Gundam Wing.
Richard Ian Cox as Alleujiah talking to himself is downright creepy though.
Like I said my favorite character is the Princess who is the show's version of Relena/Lacus.
btw:In the original Japanese version of SEED
Rie Tanaka was Lacus.I liked her version much better than the dubbed version has she made me believe Lacus was capable of leading a rebellion.

Believe it or not, I've never motivated myself to watch Gundam SEED. After watching all the UC time line serieses of Gundam, i dont honestly believe that any gundam series can top it. I mean, pink hair and singing put together make one of my "OMG YOU ARE TOTALLY HOT" fantasy girls, but, i just couldnt bring myself to watch it, even after i was in japan, playing those "retrieve stuff via claw" games that included naked pillows featuring Asuka Langley Sohryu and Lacus. Advise me if i should pursue gundam SEED please.

PS: I advise everyone visit japan, if only for the weirdness of the entire nation, and the gundam panoramic arcade game. if you visit 2 summers from now, you might actually capture "SCHWENKE" on, and in that case, get prepped to get raped by my Zaku II with all armor upgrades and leg missile pods...I'm warning you Cool

I'll take that challenge.... there's more to war than simply having a better machine.
Still say we need to bring a couple of those things over to the states, 2 groups of 4
would work. Translating the OS wouldn't be too hard since it's mostly text based.

The audio might be a problem, but I imagine a lot of fans would actually prefer it that way.
Really I'm planning on copying the HUD design in part for my game mod.

Why don't you try windom -xp? Can't beat free.

For those who have no clue what we're going on about...

Reminds me of good old Mechwarrior series...i think i played every MW game Smile
Is it very old? Graphics look realy simple to say the least.
And such extreme FOV is kinda strange. It doesn't make it look any better, but i guess it's only a plus with graphics and animation like that...

JGZinv, did you make a good progress making that mod? It's good to see some people have some energy in them to create stuff Smile

I didn't make the mod, it's a gundam capsule simulator in the arcades
of Japan. The FOV is screwy because of the camera inside the pod
trying to capture something which is panoramic.

If you look up other videos on Youtube you can see
the cockpit from outside and it's easier to understand.

oh JGZ, trust me, there is much more to this game than who has the better suit. Before i left japan, i had unlocked the Dom Tropen (we only played Zeon...Sieg Zeon!), but i still used the Zaku II because i could rape with it, and it didn't cost very many points. And i agree, you could pull a profit with these things, and even the audio isn't a big deal, mainly because there isn't much of a spoken audio track....haha I'll invest in this with you.

As far as SEED goes, you have to watch the sub because it is one of those series where the sub simply is better.
Oh and I have made my decision of which title to order next from Rightstuf and even sent the order in yesterday.

I'd like to see a 8 pod system on casters, just roll them out of a trailer,
then park em and hook them up. Not sure what kind of permits you might need.

There's still a number of conventions going around. So it might have some promise.

I've go no idea on what each pod would cost though. You know of some place that likes
to get rid of old japanese arcade systems?

Well, making it commercial will be a problem, The local gamer owners and union won't allow that.
Anyway, you need several licenses for each machine (3-4).
It's not going to be easy. You may need several ones to make it worth. And I bet one cossts more than 4 grands (like 10).
Aside from that I'm surprised there isn't a newer version after all this years.

Are you talking about a union over here in the states, or in japan?

I'd imagine each machine would cost about 6-8 thousand a piece.

What'd I'd rather do is buy them, and keep them off the main Gundam net
that japan uses for the pods. 4 vs. 4 would be plenty for a convention setting.

yea but one key part of the system that you're missing are the pilot cards...they get printed out for you on your first game, and they get updated with every playthru...for example, my zeke pilot, named schwenke, is the second or third rank, with 12643 points and 75 kills to his name, im part of the 09th MS team, and the last time i played was the 9th of july, 2007. I took all that info from my pilot card, so we'd hafta work on that as well

If we were to get a pod system, getting a data kiosk would be necessary as well.
Were you'd get the cards, the physical cards, I have no idea atm.

Much to research before we do anything.

Can't say I wouldn't mind having a pod in my basement though, and retro fit it to play other games. Heh, starfighter games would be awesome.

Here's my crazy RT for today - just flow of thoughs Razz
There are days when you lack knowledge to solve your problem. Makes you feel stupid Smile Sure - noboody knows everything, but the key is never surrendering yourself to ignorance for it is the worst evil of all. And yet i suspect that many people including myself mastered the art of making excuses for not learning Smile
Except for laziness it also happen because there's so much information and we can clearly distinguish which is related to our everyday needs and which is not. Or there's simply too much information so we specialize in some part of it and ignore the rest, even though in doing so we're at risk of "missing big picture"...maybe it's source of all hummanity's present problems btw?

Anyway - today i searched for some scientific information. I checked whatever information i could find and tried to read couple of articles just to discover that i can't realy understand them fully for they rely on some fundamental knowledge and reasearch i haven't been aware of. And when i try to read about those things - i see that it relies on something else i don't know and so on. The real problem is not "processing" that overhelming amount of information but search, classification and sorting of it.
Now, If only we had some kind of computer...the one that would work as google yet with a lot more advanced logical functions and algorithms of search, capable of building some kind of "logical tree" - it would make things a lot easier. I'd say that it's priority goal for computers development. But in order to conduct "logical" search - computer must have that logic. It must be able to see logical dependancies and relations between different pieces of information and what's more important - build new ones on his own. So does that means A.I.? Sounds great - computer that can quickly explain any problem to you without missing any single aspect for it's aware of every known related fact. Sooner or later it will probably exist. If such computer is capable of finsing and sorting information it's one step away from being able to make conclusions based on that information. How would it affect us? Would we become lazy leaving all the logical/rational thinking to computers?
The next question is - what is logic and rational thinking to us. Goal or tool? History and most of the people would say - tool. We use it to satisfy our more primitive needs in the end. But it make us what we are and if we'd no longer need it - would we degradate? Thinking about how A.I.s would affect our world make my head spin, but i also fear for fate of humanity - we'll probably have to admit that we're not as smart as machines and surrender to our human nature or implant computers to our brains or something Smile "Ghost in the shell" comes to mind - cyberbrains and all....

Closest thing to this currently is search results crafted by other people.
There's a search site for this that uses that method, but I don't remember the name.

There's also Wikipedia if you want to learn on something and then redirect to several other subjects.

There have been several search engines trying something like that (Lycos). Anyway they weren't successful as history has shown. Google killed them all.

As to AI, yes that has been tried for the last 50 years with even more complecated math that I can 't explain without books. Multidimential and associativeness has already reach it's limit. AI tech is currently stuck at there. The current research is more on self trained nets for identification and image processing. Maybe someday genetic coding will advance something but not now.
Also the computers are too slow. I had always been laughing at comments that we are closed to having it on chip. If they had only looked closer at their 101 biology tetbook they should know the brain does manage 7 billion informations per seconds just based on sensory organs. To process one info you need at lest two command for just read and load not to mention complecated processing. A computer able to just process that need at least be trillions operation per second (without higher intelligence.)
Anyway, I do believe that AI's will discover very quickly how stupid and worthless humans are. It wouldn't be surprising if they try to do something. Even humans do that on occasions....not to mention sonething that has not much of a connection to us.

So what discoveries did you make on your epoxy journey?

Agree...but it also depends on architecture/algorithms used. If we're talking about modern x86 stuff then yes so i think that in order to create A.I. we'll need CPUs that operate very differently. Brain isn't fast, it's just very and very multi-threaded imo and has a lot of stuff like MMX SSE of it's own Smile We need processor that not only can do many operations per second but has some insane multi-threading. So we can only hope for some breakthrough in field of CPUs.
What bothers me - we cannon create A.I. from start to finish - it must create itself. All we can do is to create enviroument for it to grow itself. Like artificial evolution inside of some virtual space maybe? Provide it with basic facts/logic, set a goal and allow it to develop. But then - how will we control the end results? Btw, once again i recall Mass Effect - in that game's universe A.I.is forbiden by intergalactic law. There's "Virtual intelligence" instead. And why do you think AI would think we're that bad? Maybe he'll envy us for we can drink beer, eat pizza and anjoy life for example Razz

Posted some quotes in space combat but you already saw them Smile I tried to figure out where exactly it's used but in the end - there's not enough nasa specific info. Any attempts to figure it all on my own would require me to re-invent some of the technologies used for shuttles and stuff. Very Happy
