    Bandai is selling a PC game (here)of the series since last year.
    It looks like a better 3D version of the old Nintendo console game with Homworld like tactical combat on a strategic map similar to StarTrek Armada or Galactic Civilization.
    I dunno but I don't think it has real resource management as those strategic game.

    Yep, it's easy to handle. You just need some windows common sense as to OK or Back buttons, the rest is Cancel of course.
    The first time around I played under western system so I was blind as anyone and still did well in the first mission. If you play under japanese system setting (control panel->clock,language,region->regional language options->Administrative->change system locale)
    you will see all japanese fonts.
    Most buttons are pics so you still see the most important ones under any system setting.

    The game play is simple. You can click commands or use keyboard.
    The only problem compared to similar games is that fleet maneuver is either moving any sideways or turn-and-move.
    The other trouble is when you use icons the important ones require you to click OK in another menue which is halfway across the screen from where the icon is. In a heated fight this costs time and the enemy has a 50% chance to move out of firing direction.
    Fleet formation is very powerful, but cumbersome if you got many fleets and have to turn a lot.

    Although gameplay is simple the missions are not to be underestimated.

    I will post pics and some translation on the menues later. All will be run through pics. It seems you can kind of cheat by replaying and gain levels, but I want to see how far I get just so.

    In addition to what I said. Firing missiles needs careful 'pin pointing' because they are set to fire in the direction the fleet faces and to a certain point at distance. An enemy fleet moving can avoid the barrage, and a fleet too close can avoid missile that don't hit a ship.

    On the left you see an increasing indicator. It show when you can make a barrage. The number below indicates the barrage point that have been collected. Some commanders require more barrage points than 1 to be used. It's better to collect the points for more dangerous opponents.

    You can have up to 9 barrage points collected, so use at least one to gain more.
    You also have as many missile barrages avail able as indicated in the commanders pictior section in the middle. So far I have only seen 3 icons.

    There are missions where you can enter a planet to conquer it.
    Just click on the planet will do. To leave select the planet or fleet and you see some icon with an arrow. For the planet you must click on the direction to leave appear on the normal map.

    Enter an allied planet for resupply and repair, but only if no enemy fleet is attacking it.
    Alliance Fleets are badly pounded that I never used a planet. Instead keep enemy from taking one so allies can use it.
    Try to keep Attenborough's fleet (far north) alive as it's the best allied fleet around.
    It's a good idea to annihilate the Black Lancers.

    Story:
    A daring campaign by the Alliance council politicians to invade Empire territory and free the Empire people is put to action. A force 30 million men are sent. Reinhard uses a scorched earth strategy to bleed the Alliance Forces supply. Then when the forces have to reaquire the supply from the civilians, he strikes. With moral low the forces are annihilated. HQ orders the forces to gather for a last stand at Amlitser.

    Annihilate the level 10 fleet to save trouble. Surround the level 11 fleet.

    Story:
    The recent failure of the invasion and corruption cause a coup etate within the Alliance. Yang is ordered to repell the usurpers who are led by Greenhill, Frederika's father.
    Meanwhile a demonstration is slaughtered on the planet Heinessen.
    Jessica Edwards and 15000 die. It's said Yang did not say a word when he heard of her death.

    Yang destroys the Artemis Necless defense satellite and retakes the Planet.
    Greenhill is killed by the traitor Lynch. The Coup d'Etat people try to cover up the fact that they were instigated by Reinhard.
    The powerstruggle within the Empire ended with Reinhards victory. He has become the absolute power within the Empire. Siegried is killed protecting Reinhard.
    Imperial Admiral Merkatz flees the Empire and seeks amnesty in Yang.

    You can try to divert the fire but it's difficult with enemy fleets and management of several fleets. Your fleet AI does nothing without you!
    Story:
    Yang has become too famous. He is under inquiry for conspiracy when the Empire invades.
    He is sent to defend Iserlohn. Suddenly the mobilized fortress Geiersburg warps out in front of Iserlohn.
    Both fortress exchange fire briefly. Iserlohn's main cannon is hit and disabled. After repair the fleet opens
    fire under Yangs direction destroying Geiersburgs thruster. Uncontrolled a part of the Empire fleet is destroyed by collision.
    The Empire retreats for now.

    Comment:
    Cazellnu and his fleet must stay in Iserlohn when you want to use the Iserlohn cannon.
    If you haven't trained your characters to equal levels then the stage will be tough, but not impossible to clear.
    In this case each enemy fleet is strong enough to annihilate any of your fleets.
    Try to pin them down between your fleets and Iserlohn. You can use
    Iserlohn's cannon but it takes time and the enemy fleets are fast.
    It hardly hit any units.
    For some reason I could not fire the cannon when I got the enemy fleets
    squeezed between Iserlohn and my fleets with only one way to flee.
    A shot would have done major damage and I would have had a chance to annihilate them all, but....
    (I think the stage does not allow it, because I got the scene where Schenkopp raided Reuental's flagship.) [need confirmation]

    Story:
    Reinhard
    von Lohengram had let the boy Kaiser abducted by excile nobles who
    where helped by Phezzan. They flee to the Free Planets where they found
    a government in exile. The Alliance politicians jump on this for
    publicity, and pledge to help the Goldenbaum dynasty to drive out
    Rainhard, who had managed what the Alliance had been fighting for all this time.
    Merkatz is named overal military leader and recalled by the exile government.
    Julian is ordered to become military attache in Phezzan by the government, who try to weaken Yang.
    Reinhard declare war against the Free Planet Alliance for haboring ex-nobles. The galatic population supports this.
    A final war operation with 100 million troops and a million warships is put in motion.
    The Empire sends Reuental to conquer Iserlohn as a diversion. Yang, knowing
    it was a diversion, abandons the fortress after receiving permission to
    do as he sees fit.

    By the time you get into the fight the enemy has already overwehlmed at least one allied fleet. Despite low level there is a high chance to annihilate two big enemy fleets.
    West your allies are outnumbered by 20:13.
    SouthWest your allies are outnumbered by 26:8.
    You have to choose where to engage first.
    If you engage south you would balance the fight.
    If you engage west you may even the odds.
    Note that Fahrenheit's flagship Ashgrimm has a super dual cannon which has similar fire power as a fortress cannon.

    He will get to use it about 2 times before the fight ends.
    This stage is also ideal for training, because it's easy to let yourself be destroyed.
    While training my lower level characters I cleared the stage with rank S. In
    this case I eleminated Reinhard and Fahrenheit's fleets and unexpectedly finished in record time.
    However, as it turned out eliminating Reinhard did not bring victory or end the war as hinted it would in the original story. Anyway, Lap gained 2 level for in training
    session. o.o


    Story:
    While Iserlohn was besieged, the Empire invades with it's main forces through the Phezzan corridor into Alliance space.
    The Alliance gathered all available resource for a desperate defense in the
    Rantemario system while hoping that Yang would come in time to help.
    The odds are 3 to 1 (30000:100000) at best and worst when the forces chasing Yang arrives.
    The only chance for the Alliance to survive and to end the war is to kill Reinhard.
    Reinhard's strategy is to use a two headed snake formation. No matter where the
    Alliance strikes the formation would enclose the Alliance and
    annihilate them.
    The desperation of alliance forces stun Reinhard's fleets temporarly, but soon the alliance are pushed back.
    Yang's arrival allows the Alliance to retreat toward Barret.
    Meanwhile Julian has fled Phezzan and taken over a patrol destroyer. His objective is to unite with Yang's fleet.

    The Empire builds a base at the Planet Urvasi in the Gandharva system for 20 million troops.
    Yang prepares battle around the blackhole. He lures the enemy into the blackhole.
    Then the fleet escape to Rainharl system.

    Reinhard sets himself as bait for Yang and sends all fleets to attack Alliance supply bases. As soon as Yang shows up the fleets will return and surround Yang.
    Knowing this Yang's forces pierce through one defense layer after another. Despite falling into Reinhard's layer defense scheme Yang's fleet manages to come into firing range of Reinhard's ship.
    Just then Mueller returns and fires into Yang's spear. Meanwhile the Alliance government surrendered on Heinessen to Reuental and Mittemeyer and sends Yang the order to cease fire.
    Yang obeys and surrenders. Merkatz and a number of Yang's people escape in secret.
    Yang meets Reinhard for the first time face to face.
    The Alliance signs the treaty of (?).
    Yang retires and marries Frederica.

    Interesting proposition, I don't think any fan translation of a LoGH game really exists from what I can see on a casual internet search. I actually did an enhanced translation into English of the Japanese game Yatagarasu, but that was a pretty straight forward process, similar to just editing an xml file. I'd have to see what kind of hacking (likely of a type that I've probably never tried) would be involved to edit the LoGH 2008 game files to change the language.

    Checking back it's about 174 MB text&pics for the alliance campaign only; lots of pages with the few lines of text you see in-game. Plus some extra mission shots for orientation regarding the choices. I think most of it can be gleamed from the Anime.

    Just hope it's not some custom japanese-esque encryption or worse double level as with other games I have hacked.

    I'm not sure. In the game folder most of the data files are all in ".arc" format, so we'll see. I'll try poking around with them if I have any time.

    edit: It turns out there was a arclogh.exe to unpack and repack the files, but just like the previous partial translation efforts, this file has disappeared from the internet. So, I guess I won't have anyway to get at the bin files.

    The game files need a custom coded unpacker/packer, it's a kind of DRM I guess. Someone made one back when the first t/l effort was attempted, but the program was hosted on sites like mediafire and rapidshare which delete files after a time, so they have been lost to the internet unfortunately. I can't code such a thing, so it looks like a no-go.

    Japanese games traditionally always used some kind of encryption(also=compression) to protect their data. For old console games there are some general tools others have customized tools. Since it seems to use a known packer this looks rather easy. It's just the header protocol that's probably customized.
    Well, nothing we can do now.
    If there's a source code for the unpack/packer go grab it. Who knows when it can be used again.

    I guess this means that the "big" images with the translations are no longer available - dang!  If anyone knows where I can get menu translations and such, please let me know.  Almael, if you still have those images, I would love to have a copy of them, please.

    They are all still there. It's just a combination of both sites changing code bases so it doesn't work for guests. Changes from my end has no effect.
    You need to login for KOTS to show them when you click on them. As for photobucket you need to tweak the image url links by hand. Copy the thumbnail image link and simply remove the "th_". The large image link still works if you can copy it.
