Apple ipad?
Every in the apple world was pump up for this new product from apple, the ipad. However; some wish they kept their months shut or wish apple had done better job on features. The only thing that set apple ipad from rest of tablets, that it is in color and allows download from itunes. I'am just glad it out, so people can shut about it and understand that apple does thing different from rest of the pack. Now if apple really wants this product to sell, they need add in more software and add stylus, so can use like note pad from classic star trek series.

Re: Apple ipad?
They need to rename it, add multitasking, add Flash to all their mobile devices, and not make a huge deal over nothing extraordinary .

Re: Apple ipad?
Well, it's nothing new and got iphone software ...
Besides looking at it I would liked it to have some kind of handle or grip. Someone who travels a lot will end up dropping and hitting around a lot.
I would prefer those etendable e-paper tablet or the like. So the grip would be where the important hardware would be. This also means better SDD chips are needed.

Re: Apple ipad?
I haven't seen any yet so far,or at least I can't remember seeing any. What I would like to see would be to have them come out with a special series for Northwest sports fans in the colors of the Seahawks,Blazers,Sonics,Mariners, and Storm.
I think that would be cool to have an ipad with the color of your favorite team.(Note I didn't mention logo as that would take some legal
manuvering to do.)

Re: Apple ipad?
"They disguise it, hypnotize it
Television made you buy it"
A failure. This thing will not sell very well (in the world)- having all the limitations of iPhone (and more) without having it's (portable) size? Apple takes the road of "meaningless products" further - this thing is not suitable for anything but light casual entertainment use. I guess iPhone wasn't big enough for those spoiled kids to show(off) their friends some youtube clip or trailer or a movie?
The only good thing about it - next thing we'll see is what should've been done long ago - all notebooks turn tablets which is good thing...
Actual weaknesses:
- i don't even know any operator that uses that weird SIM card format..is it some only American standard?
- weak processor with no multi-threading, poor multi-tasking
- no phone - just 3G...??
- docking/data transfer only through apple's cable
- NO CARD slot (it alone makes it useless)
Overall - another attempt to get money from US-only consumers, but this time it may show how wide "consumer culture" have spread

Re: Apple ipad?
Then again most ad agencies that are supposed to advertise the product think that America only consists of L.A. and New York City.Maybe they remember that Chicago and Detroit also exist and Washington D.C.,but nothing much of anything else.
Oh and I did my own comparison of AT & T and Verizion yesterday online. From the various sites I visited I came away with the overwhelming
feeling that Verizion IS better than AT & T.The only advantage AT & T had was they made the deal with Apple for the iphone.Other than that Verizion customers as a whole were much more satisfied whilst AT & T's complained about such things as dropped calls, customer serive and tech support.

Re: Apple ipad?
We quite literally did a side by side comparison of V and ATT, came away with V as the winner.
Quite simply better range and almost no dropped calls.

You know, if yours look fancy, I bet you will find it missing one day.
You forgot Houston. As to features, there aren't many yet, mostly for ebooks.
It would be nice if drawing tablets could work as pad, mouse, drawing boards, and netbook. I would buy one.
Usefulness and features
PC >= laptop >= UMPC >= netbook > handheld >= cellphone ~= pad
Tsk, there are really many who actually by this. As expected some real user reviews complained about pain holding it for long periods of time. Well, maybe in 5-10 years someone will make a real usefull tablet design.

Re: Apple ipad?
I got my hands on one of these. I didn't buy it, just had a chance to hold it and now i can say this thing is for idiots.
We have a serious problem here - part of US seem to be infested by consumerism zombies - they buy 600$ devices that can't do a thing, not even a decent entertainment stuff - can't read book and listen to music at the same time, not even a file browser...
Remember - you gotta shoot em in the head

Re: Apple ipad?
*Wbahaha*
Well, I don't mind the portable screen as long as it can do anything a full fledged computer can.
Some time ago, I bought this very mobile laptop I'm still using. Not topnotch or greates power nor luxury type but on the inside the best there is for small size. Only graphic was Intel (bleh) my most regret aside from the damn HD screen format! People were laughing at my choice for high mobility, but now they all buy net books and this abonimation of a tablet. All of them still suck compared to my laptop except maybe graphic.
So I do believe in size for mobility but usefulness is still the main factor for my choices. After all, what use is it to buy (maybe cheap) and not be able to use or don't get what you need? If you cannot be productive you are screwed wether in business or private it will be a major obstacle each time you use it.

Re: Apple ipad?
15in widescreen laptop is the sweet spot I do believe.
The asus models pack a lot of power in there, it's reasonably light
for what it's got inside.... looks great, and I have a numpad.
Nettop is too small for my eyes, it'd only be useful as say a flash memory dump
station for cameras or really light work. Either way I'd rather carry my notebook
with 3hrs of battery that I can actually do something on.
iPad is to Apple what Virtual Boy is to Nintendo.

Re: Apple ipad?
Yeah, ToughBooks FTW, can stop 5.45 Doesn't survive though, but still
But honestly - the Tablet PCs are the best if you need PC + touch screen functionality, lately they are touch sensitive (not only stylos) I actually bought myself older & used Toshiba TabletPC - 12" with very high resolution, perfect for casual sketches practice when you got a minute. Bought it for only 250$ used cuz my stuff breaks often.
Anyway - i think we'll soon see Pads from other "normal" manufacturers like Asus, MSI, Dell etc. and they'll offer the same + being full-featured PCs

Re: Apple ipad?
What Toshiba Tablet is it? The old or new one?.
Yeah, 15/14" is optimum size, but I was carrying books and all so I wanted something in the 5lb range. None offered the right size and power and I ended up with 12.1", T7200@2GHz 160GB. But I don't regret it except the graphic & wide screen format. You know widescreen actually cuts off the height, right? And sells at a higher price.
Normal screen gives you more usefull screen space. Tsk, damn PR
My next laptop has to be a 15-13", SandyBridge+ CPU, 3-500GB, 2nd generation BlueRay burner. There is no worry about graphics these days.

Re: Apple ipad?
Eh I like the widescreen due to my constant use of the internet.
My largest complaint though is stretching and graphics creation.
There's no middle ground for making things look good on stand and widescreen
at the same time when making images.

Re: Apple ipad?
That's where you should be complaining a lot due to the need of scrolling. Same for text, and everything else.JGZinv wrote:Eh I like the widescreen due to my constant use of the internet.
normal format:
800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 1600x1200
wide format
800x480 1024x600 1280x720 1680x1050
There is no difference in width so you don't gain something like more tabs/function buttons, but anything else is less useful (vertical tools, oversight for images etc.).
If you turn around the wide screen for vertical use, you lose a lot of width while you don't gain anything compared to normal format. And you pay what? like 150% more?
Biggest PR conspiracy!!
Edit:
Someone actually summarized it with some more arguments and is also a much earlier user than me.
I wouldn't complain if they actually have made real wide screens by increasing the width instead of cutting the height.

Eh I'm using 1366X768 - but I understand your complaints.
Scrolling I have adjusted the trackpad to suit me better and I use a neat
greasemonkey script that auto loads multipage results to the end of a page
rather than clicking 1,2,3,4,5, and so on.
