Pics in the first link seem ok, but overal - it is clearly not very manga style and has influence of western school of drawing, more DC style.
I always thought that Seikai is sci-fi franchise and needs more serious art style, realistic even. I believe that overly simple drawing style in anime was misleading for many people and as result it had a hard time finding some of it's key audience while leaving those who expected to see "typical anime stuff" unsatisfied...

I agree that the artwork doesn't look like Lafiel.Then I may be prejudiced since I already have a copy of the manga that was previous published by Tokyopop,which I was referring to in my earlier comments.

I think this manga book is the same as the webmanga, but perhaps has some extras.

Yeah, I agree the art could be better like in one of those Tokyopop manga (I think it was #2 or SnS1). That one I liked the art most.
The young artist really gave his best there compared to the other two.

Are they working off the character designs from the original light novels or trying to portray the characters in their own peculiar style?If the latter that might be why Lafiel doesn't look like herself.

It looks like they all do their own. That's why there are many different looks. But imho the anime is best overall, although, Lafiel & Jinto in the later show could use some maturation. I guess we won't really see a change until the 2nd arc.

I hope this isn't like EVA where we have to wait years after the Japanese premiere.

Well I think he a lot different than Shinji since he does not complain about everything and does not go to cry in a corner.

Yeah, Shinji is a selfish, shut-in and (spoiled) childish. But it figures considering Jinto went into exile and had to live by himself. He had to grow up, and living a potential dangerous life made him smarter, too.

Agreed since he develops a lot in the anime which is one reason I like him and I doubt t Shinji would ever take a gun shot for anyone.

True. And he's even worse in 3.33! I think that's one of the reasons why Misato barely gives him the time of day once they rescue him. Also if Shinji were in Crest/Banner of the Stars Spoor would
have fun turning him into one of her cat toys!
