Wireless Media Keyboard? Empty Wireless Media Keyboard?

Post by JGZinv 6/6/2009, 11:31 pm

I'm thinking about setting up my broken laptop as a internet device
for my living room... so we can watch TV and whatnot internet anime.

Thing is that I'm going to need a wireless keyboard with about a
30-40 ft. range. Hopefully something not on the 2.4 Ghz spectrum.
Plus it needs a pointing device of some kind.

Any one got an idea? I saw a keyboard for the PS3 that would be nice
but evidently it doesn't support Windows.

Not sure if I should come up with some kind of linux / media center
or just throw a stripped version of windows on there... or what.

All I really need is firefox, media player classic, and their plugins.

A broken laptop...so basicly building something like a VCR but for computer/internet content.

Well, I don't think you can find anything not using 2.4GHz, becuase of standard and licenses.

However, if you look for special items, and if anyone has it it's the israelis. Wink

Well basically I want an internet kiosk.

It needs to just view whatever streaming media I'm looking at, and maybe
download a torrent, but that last one is debatable because I don't like
    torrents.

I've got a neat little distro called SLAX running off a boot cd with a dozen
some odd programs running... including the latest firefox... but I can't seem
to get it to connect FF to the net. I think the wireless is working, since it says
it's connected and shows up... but nothing is loading.

I've got 0 Linux experience, but honestly this isn't bad for a GUI. Sort of like
Windows Lite. Which is what I want... if I can get external monitor support, and the internet to work... I may have it.

USB keyboard support seems to be instant on, so I'd think a wireless one would be ok.

    I see.

Your problem is definitly a configuration & recognition one which also can be caused by the driver/ID key.

Linux isn't difficult, it's more for the freaks, though. I haven't used UNIX/Linux for some time and am too rusty and not up to date to help out well. Try to use the internet/connection tools. They always have neat test commands/error search options.
