Post by lymhfeubdach 5/9/2009, 3:09 am

Amazon.com has bought out their new Kindle DX, does almost some things as the old model, but offer more features. Hold torns more information, larger display, bulit in PDF reader, long battery life. Other cool features includes that it can read out loud to you, I guess good for those who trouble understanding the test. Now for the cons, it not in color, no sd card reader, zone ports, no video content, and finally think about how eyes going hurt after reading for hours. I think Kindles are good idea, but still like good book to read.

I just don't read much anymore.... I mean I read tons technically online.
I used to be a book black hole as a kid, and have 3 bookshelves of books now.
But I've got a lot of unfinished ones laying around. Last book I read is either
the Bible or my GED prep book.

I'll be more interested in eBook readers once there's some kind of library program
in place, since we should be able to do the same thing as the paperbacks and not pay out
the nose for it. Plus I want to see OLED screens in color, then they will be much more useful than just for books.

Did you guys know that Amazon takes 70% of the profit from each licensed sale for the Kindles?

    confused
Ok Zinv I got a "This computer has commited an illegal operation error"mesage when I was trying to do QOUTE just right now.
Either our computer is dying or something.
Any way back on topic:I know what you mean about being a book blackhole.I'm the same way myself and I also have the same problem about not seeming to get into reading right now(although I seem to have the problem of not being able to get into reading library books right now,I look through a lot when I straighten shelves and sometimes find something I find interesting but then when it comes to checking them out just don't seem as interested as I was when looking through them the first time around).
Now for the obvious question:What is a Kindle?

Ok...thanks.Though I still perfer the old fashioned type of book though I can see where something like Kindle could be useful if you had to have a lot of books or a couple of large ones to carry around.

It's getting adopted by schools too....

BTW the reason you can't see the user map, probably you don't have the flash plugin
    installed.

Ack!!!The Curse of JAVA continues then!!!!
Anyways I wonder if Kindle is going to be the ancestor of what we end up seeing on Star Trek.Or will they be a combination of Kindle and PADs?

Ten to one, it's because of the Sci Fi shows the Kindle exists.

Flash is different from Java, but yeah you're behind the times in terms of plugins.

This sounds interesting...but, what I'd REALLY love to see is it used as a manga/comic reader...

That's what I read most now a days.

Yeah we need to catch up on our technology here.
We're so farao when it comes down to what our computer can do.
Anyways the one good thing I can see from Kindle would be having more space than with the normal type of books.

I don't seem to see for which system you want..so
    comic reader
    or
you have to compile cbr reader for your system, you might have to repack the packages or try cbz reader if it has one for your system.

Yeah, I'm just saying this big thing itself.

I mean, if it can show a book in Adobe or w/e,
or if it can show images,
then I'd think of buying it as a manga/comic book reader on the go.

pack boxes of books and comics to read and put them in the back seat.

I had homework and a monochrome gameboy.... then I found out how to rig a tv in the
truck.. and then my PS1/ N64... then the PS2 and Xbox.

In fact I've played the entirety of Halo 1 in co-op on one trip from Iowa.

Yah, actually it might be better *shrugs*

I have lived through cold (I mean it) and hot zone and I'm still not sure which is better.
It's definitly not so uncomfortable to get out into the cold than into burning hot desert.
Then again new england is nice but the storms and heavy rain with zero visibility....-_-

    Cold is better than heat.

My reasoning is simple. In cold you can add layers or otherwise generate heat.

In heat.. well you can strip naked and that's the best you can do.
    Everything burns eventually.

Seriously though if you're gonna die of frostbite by getting buried in a blizzard I guess downloading a book about Scott and Amundsen wouldn't be a good idea.I mean that's the last thing you need is a book about the race to the South Pole whilst dying of cold.
