Some of my stuff

I'm not much of a from-scratch artist.... mostly I'm an editor.
Started making little 60x60 avatars for forums way back in the day which
got me into using an old copy of Photoshop we had laying around.

Before that I of course drew freehand as long as I had a ruler to use.
Can't draw a straight line to save my life without some kind of tool.
Over the years I rather lost my ability to draw freehand I guess, so I've
stuck with Photoshop, even though I still don't know what masks and some other
features are for.

But here's some stuff I edited together or made up.

Nice. Did you draw some of the characters here yourself?

Some stuff I made myself, like the Oasis, parallel knights logo, major portions of NekoNekoDee. The fringespace banners were almost entirely mine. The white ship in WebEX is a 3D model from Dual that I've been working in very slowly. The abh shields were mine except for the snake/dragon emblem.

Most of the ones I did post, like the one above with the ramen cup and the Dual wallpaper group shot... are heavily edited to put them together. The wallpaper was two different pieces without a middle, so made all that from scratch to fill it in.
The Ramen one is actually a different picture, I had to make the ramen cup from a sliver of another image and keep building it till I had something, then I had to rebuild the hand and the wall behind the cup. Most of the banners and things are just edits from a bunch of other images.

I totaly forgot about 3D. I spent a lot of time studying it and i'd say that my knowledge was on a pretty good level, i mostly worked with Softimage XSI, 3Dmax and Zbrush but never realy spent enough time to make something truly good. Updated my topic.

Maybe you should give your drawing skills a try more often? I mean - hand drawing characters, items ships and stuff. It's is not hard, fun and
definately faster way to do a pic than 3D for example. I can suggest a couple of sites with tons of great tutorials that inspired me to try it.

Well I think I need some instruction to be honest, I don't do well on tutorials alone. I probably should try freehand more often. It could just be a matter of being under developed from not being used.

I'd really like to get into using a wacom tablet, as that'd help in certain areas that a mouse just doesn't quite work.

Sorry...I remeber that one of those was the one she used for her siggie at the Dualfans and Parallel Worlds forums.

Of course - mouse is no good for drawing. You can get wacom "bamboo" - either normal "black" A6 version or Bamboo Fun A5 - they are cheap and unless you are experienced hardcore professional - you won't tell the difference between it and Intuos models. I have both so i know what i'm saying They say latest Genius are ok too, but i haven't tried them.
But truth is - all you realy need is a good paper, pencil and eraser. Once you worked with wacom for some time you'll soon realize that there's virtualy no difference when you do pencil drawings and pencil&paper are actualy better for anything but color. Right now as i learn more - i use paper more often and just scan stuff to color it - you simply have slightly more control over the pencil.
As for instructions - video tutorials have it all included usualy. There's only a few basic rules that help you start quickly.But most of the time - you just watch someone drawing stuff and your mind/eye/hand learns it as if you done it yourself. Rest is just practice.

So far it's the only guy who provide people such great tutorials for free and it's usable for either tablet or real pencil alike.

As to putting it in, go to your profile > signature tab > and you'll have to wrap the image url you used before in the img tags (or use the button and it'll do it).

Alex - yeah I've rather gravitated towards digital due to the ability to undo a messup... which is really hard in pencil. I've looked at getting a bamboo black or fun since they are indeed cheap by comparison. There some things you can do in photoshop I understand with the pen which you can't so easily do with a mouse.

Not realy - paper can usualy endure a lot more erases then you can draw or will ever need. Especialy paper made for drawing so there's realy not much of advantage. You just need soft pencil and good eraser. And you will always draw lines and curves better on paper - tablet need some getting used to.
