There's already discussions on a PS5.

Currently, the Xbox One X and Playstation 4 Pro have been unveiled/available for about a year. Both offer semi-real and real 4K support. VR support is currently hot with Playstation VR. The next level would be 8k support.
Technically speaking 8k support should be possible in about 6 years (8x performance).
So some people think PS5 will be a half step e.g. not bleeding edge tech at the time of launch.
I doubt this.
Currently, the Playstation 4 Pro is still new and I don't see a sense to release another 4k+ version in another 3 years when tech wise 8k is coming just a few years later. The R&D investment isn't worth it. On the other hand 6+ years is too short for a complete new version unless they already are working on it for some time. Yet gamers might be anxious already, hence, 6 years would turn out to be long.
So if Sony does decide on a half-step it would be another Playstation 4 Xtreme or so. In this case it would be reasonable to believe a PS5 would come out in about 8 years with full 8k support and some room to spare. This would be most reasonable imho. The specification should be 10x better in terms of graphical calculations.
